Act I: The Guðmundsson Conundrum
I’ll admit it. When I authorized the £32.5M deal for Endrick and handed him a £105k p/w contract, the financial math was supposed to be simple: Albert Guðmundsson was going to be the sacrificial lamb. He had high market value, and flipping him was the logical way to balance the books after our massive January splurge.
But Football Manager is a game of shifting realities.
Guðmundsson came back from his injury, walked onto the San Siro pitch for the Supercoppa Semi-Final, and dropped a magnificent, flawless hat-trick on Inter Milan’s head. He practically won us the trophy single-handedly. You do not transfer-list a man who just violently exorcised your biggest demon.
So, the Icelandic winger stays. Suddenly, my attacking depth chart is an absolute embarrassment of riches. Endrick, Guðmundsson, Sottil, Carboni, Esposito, and Lucca. Trying to keep all of these egos happy with playing time during the upcoming gauntlet is going to be a man-management tightrope walk, but I would rather have too many weapons than not enough.
Act II: The Turin Eviction
To offset the wages and trim the fat, I had to make some ruthless cuts at the bottom of the roster.
I picked up the phone to Juventus and officially terminated the loans of Weston McKennie and Vedat Muriqi.
- The Trebuchet Departs: Muriqi did exactly what I brought him in to do. He provided late-game physical chaos and scored a couple of crucial goals when we were desperate, but with Lucca now anchoring the line and Endrick arriving, the big man became redundant.
- The Midfield Surplus: McKennie was a decent utility player, but with Fagioli, Mandragora (when his ankle heals), Janelt, and Koné, his minutes were drying up.
Sending them back to Turin clears up crucial wage budget and frees up valuable loan slots for the remainder of the campaign.
Act III: The Right-Back Manhunt
However, evicting McKennie has created an immediate structural problem. He was quietly providing cover at right-back.
Marc Pubill is my undisputed starter on the right flank. He has been brilliant. But we are about to play Juventus, Ajax, Liverpool, Milan (twice), and Inter all within a few weeks. If Pubill pulls a hamstring in the first ten minutes against Ajax, I am looking at a gaping hole in my defensive line.
I need to dive straight into the loan market. I am not looking for a galáctico; I am looking for a reliable, hard-working mercenary who can step into a high-pressure Champions League tie without completely destroying our defensive shape.
