Alright, the January transfer window has done its job. We’ve secured Mamardashvili to lock down the goal, Endrick has arrived to terrorize defenses, and Lucca is settling in up front.
But we are entering a brutal, season-defining stretch of fixtures against the absolute elite of Italian and European football.
Here is what is coming for the Purple Palace:
1. The Champions League League Phase Climax
We have two incredibly difficult European fixtures remaining to secure our passage to the knockout stages.
- Ajax (Home) – Jan 21st: Ajax will be a massive test of our tactical discipline. We need to leverage the Artemio Franchi crowd and ensure Mamardashvili is fully integrated. We cannot afford the kind of defensive lapses we showed against Inter in November.
- Liverpool (Away) – Jan 28th: This is the big one. Anfield under the lights. It’s also a massive narrative clash: Mamardashvili returning to face the club that just sold him to us for £40M. We proved against Arsenal (a 3-1 win) that we can dismantle Premier League giants, but doing it on Merseyside is a different beast entirely. We need to be clinical on the counter.
2. The Domestic Minefield
The Serie A schedule offers absolutely zero breathing room.
- Juventus (Home) – Jan 17th: The Derby d’Italia rivals come to Florence. Juventus are sitting 4th in the table, just one point behind us. This is a classic six-pointer. We need to re-establish the dominance we showed against Udinese and not let the ghosts of the Palermo collapse haunt the stadium.
- AC Milan (Away) – Feb 11th: The current league leaders. This is arguably the most important league fixture of the season so far. If we want the Scudetto, we have to go to the San Siro and take points off the top dogs.
- Inter Milan (Home) – Feb 21st: Just ten days after playing AC Milan, we host Inter. They humiliated us 4-1 in the Champions League, but we exacted revenge in the Supercoppa Semi-Final (5-3). This will be the rubber match.
3. The Coppa Italia Quarter-Final
- AC Milan (Home) – Feb 4th: As if the league fixture wasn’t enough, we draw Milan in the cup just a week prior. This back-to-back sequence against the league leaders will stretch our squad depth to its absolute limits, especially with Mandragora currently sidelined.
The Tactical Imperative
This run of games—Juventus, Ajax, Liverpool, Milan (twice), and Inter—will define our season.
I cannot rely on the chaotic, high-xG shootouts we saw earlier in the year. The safer 4-2-3-1 structure has to hold firm. Mamardashvili needs to instantly justify his price tag, and Endrick has to transition from providing assists against Monza to unlocking elite Champions League defenses.
We survived the injury crisis and won the Supercoppa. Now, we find out if the Purple Press is genuinely built to win the Scudetto.
